Daniel de Kadt has been reappointed National Coach for the South African Schools Team for 2008/2009. Dan has coached the team for the past two years and has produced some fantastic results, including SA's second-place break in this year's WSDC in Washington, DC in September. He will coach the new team - once their selection is finalised after the National Schools - to the 2009 World Schools event in Greece in February.

England have won the 2008 World Schools Debating Championships in Washington, DC after beating New Zealand in the Final.

South Africa were unfortunate to lose to Greece in the semi-finals, after beating Hong Kong in the octos.

The South African team have done exceptionally well, however, both as a team and individually. Daniel Kaliski, from Herzlia in the Western Cape, was ranked 9th in the World in terms of speaker rankings. No information is yet available about the ranking of the other SA speakers.

The top ten speakers were:

10. Hugh Burns (IRELAND)
9. Daniel Kaliski (SOUTH AFRICA)
8. Sian Ni Mhuiri (IRELAND)
7. Emily Chalk (AUSTRALIA)
6. Sam Greene (CANADA)
5. Ben Woolgar (ENGLAND)
4. Holly Jenkins (NEW ZEALAND)
3. Chris Bisset (AUSTRALIA)

Since it's inaugral year in 2007, the African Schools' Debating Championships has been a huge success, so much so that the Championships have already had offers for sponsorship from a number of organizations for 2009. Making a tournament of this level a success requires a highly organised and competent team. Applications are now open for the 2009 ASDC OrgComm. ASDC 2009 will take place from 14 April to 21 April 2009, including travel days.

Applications close 1 September 2008
